3 Axis Desktop CNC Mill
I designed and built this machine from scratch with a $500 budget. It’s capable of 3 axis cnc milling of wood, plastics, and soft metals. It uses 4 stepper motors and leadscrews to drive the movement in three dimensions. A Brushed DC motor powers the chuck, which drives end mills of up to a 10mm shank diameter. The brain of this device is an Arduino Uno. It runs a specially configured instance of GRBL, an open source CNC firmware mostly used for 3D printing.
Build Video
In this video, I cover the design and prototyping process for this machine from start to finish. Second video with upgrades and performance demonstrations coming soon.
